Unpacking Life Abroad

Here's what's actually happening, and what to do next.

You made the move. You're here. And somewhere between the boxes and the new routines, a question showed up: how do I make this work? Or simply: now what?

In this free workshop on Zoom on Thursday, October 15, I'll walk you through what happens once you've arrived, why it feels the way it does, and practical tools that help you settle in. It works no matter where you're from or where you moved to.

Getting there was the plan. Nobody planned for what comes after.

Before the move, you had a to-do list: visas, housing, flights, schools. Then you arrived, ticked the last box, and the list ran out. What came next is harder to name.

You're glad you're here. You chose this, and some days it feels exactly right.
Then a simple errand takes all morning, and a phone call leaves you drained.
You miss friends and family back home more than you thought you would.
Making new friends is taking longer than you expected.

Because you wanted this so much, it's hard to explain, even to yourself, why some days feel harder than they should. Most people go through all of this after they arrive. Almost nobody gets told about it in advance.

That's what we'll unpack together in Unpacking Life Abroad: what's going on underneath the good days and the hard ones, and what you can do about it.

    Hi, I'm Deborah

I'm a relocation strategist and intercultural psychologist, and I've lived this myself: six countries, three continents, and more than four decades of packing up and starting over. I've felt every phase we'll talk about in this workshop.

For the last 10+ years, I've helped people through these phases in country after country. I hold a Master's in Intercultural Psychology, and this workshop brings together what I've lived, studied, and seen work for my clients.
